Lyrics

Imagine there's no heaven

It's easy if you try

No hell below us

Above us only sky

Imagine all the people

Living for today (ah ah ah)

Imagine there's no countries

It isn't hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

And no religion, too

Imagine all the people

Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions

I wonder if you can

No need for greed or hunger

A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people

Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will live as one

The story of The Song ‘Imagine’

Several poetry from Lennon's wife Yoko Ono's 1964 collection Grapefruit served as inspiration.

One poem says, "Imagine the clouds pouring, dig a hole in your garden to put them in," which Capitol Records eventually reprinted on the back cover of the original Imagine album named "Cloud Piece."

Later, Lennon clarified that the song "be acknowledged as a Lennon/Ono tune The song and the concept were largely Yoko's ideas, but back then I was a little more egotistical and macho, so I sort of ignored her input even though it was straight out of Grapefruit."

The fundamental idea of the song was also influenced by a Christian prayer book that Dick Gregory had given to him.

The idea of constructive prayer. It might be real if you can picture a peaceful society free from religious division and the notion that one God is greater than another.

I once received a call from the World Church asking if they could simply change the words to "Imagine one religion" in the song "Imagine." That made it clear to me that they had no idea what it meant. The entire notion and intent of the song would be defeated.

Early in 1971, Lennon wrote the song in the morning.

At his Tittenhurst Park residence in Ascot, it was written on a Steinway piano in a bedroom.

He wrote the majority of the lyrics, the chord progression, and the melody in one quick writing session while Yoko Ono looked on.

Together with Phil Spector, Lennon and Ono co-produced the song. Spector later remarked, "We knew what we were going to do. John was going to make a political statement that was also highly commercial. "Imagine" has always seemed to me to be similar to the national anthem.

Ono and Spector would simply sit in the other room and shout things such, "Why don't you try this sound" or "You're not playing the piano that well," according to how Lennon subsequently recounted working with them. I'll have the basic thought, and then we'll just start looking for sounds.

At Lennon's new home studio in Tittenhurst Park, Ascot Sound Studios, the recording took place on May 27, 1971.

On July 4, 1971, at the Record Plant in New York City, strings were afterwards added.

Lennon played piano and sang on the final album, which also featured Klaus Voormann on bass guitar, Alan White on percussion, and the Flux Fiddlers on strings.

The well-known music video for the song was a part of an 81-minute movie that accompanied the Imagine.

It included images taken in New York City as well as the couple's home and music studio at Tittenhurst Park in the Berkshires.

In the film's famous "Imagine" sequence, John Lennon is seen playing his white grand piano in an all-white space.

As the music continues, Ono moves around, opening curtains that let light inside and brighten the space. At the conclusion, Ono and Lennon exchange a warm glance and a short kiss while seated next to each other at the piano.

The movie included a number of historical personalities, such as Andy Warhol, Fred Astaire, Jack Palance, Dick Cavett, and George Harrison.

It peaked at number one in Canada and number three in the United States in 1971. But it wasn't until 1975 that it was made available in the UK as a single, where it peaked at number 6.

The song reentered the UK charts following Lennon's death in 1980 and peaked at number one, where it remained for four weeks in January 1981.

In the UK, it was re-released as a single in 1988 and peaked at number 45. It was again re-released in 1999 and peaked at number 3.

It is now John Lennon's best-selling single as a solo artist with over 1,640,000 copies sold in the UK.

Lyrics

Load up on guns, bring your friends

It's fun to lose and to pretend

She's over bored and self assured

Oh no, I know a dirty word

Hello, hello, hello, how low

Hello, hello, hello, how low

Hello, hello, hello, how low

Hello, hello, hello

With the lights out, it's less dangerous

Here we are now, entertain us

I feel stupid and contagious

Here we are now, entertain us

A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido

Yeah, hey

Yay

I'm worse at what I do best

And for this gift I feel blessed

Our little group has always been

And always will until the end

Hello, hello, hello, how low

Hello, hello, hello, how low

Hello, hello, hello, how low

Hello, hello, hello

With the lights out, it's less dangerous

Here we are now, entertain us

I feel stupid and contagious

Here we are now, entertain us

A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido

Yeah, hey

Yay

And I forget just why I taste

Oh yeah, I guess it makes me smile

I found it hard, was hard to find

Oh well, whatever, never mind

Hello, hello, hello, how low

Hello, hello, hello, how low

Hello, hello, hello, how low

Hello, hello, hello

With the lights out, it's less dangerous

Here we are now, entertain us

I feel stupid and contagious

Here we are now, entertain us

A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido

A denial, a denial, a denial, a denial, a denial

A denial, a denial, a denial, a denial

Story of an Ideal Pop Song by Nirvana

This song was written by Kurt Cobain specifically for the band Nirvana, and it was finished during a jam session. He stated: "I wanted to create the ideal pop song. In essence, I was trying to copy The Pixies."

After a night of partying and spray-painting graffiti across the Seattle region, Cobain's bedroom wall was covered in "Kurt Smells Like Teen Spirit," which was sprayed by the lead singer of the band Bikini Kill. Prior to meeting Courtney Love, Cobain dated Tobi Vail, the main vocalist of the band Bikini Kill, but she dumped him. Hanna was suggesting that Cobain was marked by the aroma of Vail's Teen Spirit deodorant because Vail was wearing it.

As Cobain spray-painted "God Is Gay" on the wall of a religious facility that they thought was impersonating an abortion clinic and warning people they would go to hell if they aborted their child, Hanna explained that she was Cobain's watchful eye early in the night. That night, they got pretty tipsy, and Hanna recalled, "I broke up a bunch of s—t in Kurt's flat. It was really sort of silly of me to write all over his bedroom wall with a Sharpie marker because it was a rental. I dozed off while holding the marker and awoke groggy. She received a call from Kurt Cobain six months later asking for permission to use the words she had scrawled on the wall as lyrics. "I wondered how he was going to use 'Kurt Smells Like Teen Spirit as a lyric," Hanna remarked.

Teen Spirit was a deodorant product marketed to teenage girls when Cobain wrote the song, but he was not aware of this at the time. Kurt thought Hanna was applauding him because he was a renegade and a good example for kids. Sales of Teen Spirit deodorant soared after this gained popularity, despite the fact that it is not referenced in the song's lyrics.

This was the first "alternative" song to have a big hit, and in many respects it redefined the term because it was accepted by the mainstream despite the word "alternative" connoting a lack of popularity. Some business people used the term "modern rock" to describe the genre, which became a popular radio format, in an effort to protect the name for artists like Porno For Pyros and Catherine Wheel. Nirvana swiftly gained recognition as a "classic alternative" band as the term "alternative" evolved to be more of a catch-all for music performed by white people that didn't match the pop or country styles.

This song by Nirvana served as the catalyst for the grunge movement, which was defined by angst-filled lyrics, loud guitars, and flannel. Grunge was a damaged, emotional aesthetic and sound that was popularised by bands from the Pacific Northwest. Other notable grunge bands of the time were Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, who were also influenced by the Nevermind album. "People were passing around advance copies," Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam recalled. "The songs" were a big deal to everyone.

When questioned about the phrase in early interviews, Kurt Cobain frequently dismissed it as a worthless label, but their bassist Krist Novoselic clarified that it was a snarling, organic guitar sound that defined it.

According to Cobain, he was "disgusted with my generation's apathy, and with my own apathy and spinelessness" when he penned this song. This detached feeling is what inspired songs with lyrics like "Oh well, whatever, never mind." Added Krist Novoselic: "Kurt hated the mainstream so much. The mass conformity attitude was the main theme of "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

On MTV, the video was a major hit. Samuel Bayer, a 1987 alumnus of the New York City School of Visual Arts, directed the "Pep Rally from Hell" concept shoot on August 17 at Culver City Studios in California. Two days prior, the band performed at The Roxy Theater in Los Angeles, where fliers were distributed with the following message: "You must participate in Nirvana's future music video. You should be between the ages of 18 and 25 and assume a high school persona, such as preppy, punk, nerd, or jock. Be ready to remain for a while. Come out and enjoy yourselves while supporting Nirvana."

The shoot lasted closer to twelve hours, during which time the extras were instructed to sit in the bleachers and seem uninterested as the music was played. Bayer stated: "I needed them for 12 hours, but nobody wanted to stay more than 30 minutes. Can we damage the set? they asked me in the eleventh hour when the band had had it with me and the kids were furious with me."

With all their pent-up enthusiasm, the kids who were invited down by Bayer to start a mosh pit proceeded to destroy the set. This spontaneous and authentic destruction served as a good cap to the video.

The Ramones' Rock and Roll High School and Cobain's favourite film Over the Edge, which featured disobedient youth trashing a high school, served as the inspiration for the music video.

Cobain was reportedly becoming really upset with the session, but Bayer required another try. In the performance you can see at the end of the video, Cobain expresses his annoyance by yelling and slapping his face against the camera. His genuine rage served as a fantastic acting cue.

Cobain didn't like the original edit of the video, which Bayer had made since he had cut it too literally and featured a main character in several frames while the music was playing. In order to recut the video and make it more bizarre, Cobain collaborated with him. He added his crazy expression to the second-to-last shot and made sure that his hands were placed incorrectly during the guitar solo.

Cobain's original concept for the cheerleaders in the video called for them to be extremely overweight and unsightly. The cheerleaders were given "sleeve" tattoos and clothing with the anarchy symbol despite the director Samuel Bayer disliking the notion. His claim that he hired them from a nearby strip club helps to explain their unusual cheers.

The History behind Mark Ronson's Popular Song "Uptown Funk"

Mark Ronson's song "Uptown Funk" was one of the year's biggest hits. As we continue our series of some of our best interviews from the year, Ronson is the speaker today. Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang, the creators of the Netflix comedy series "Master Of None," will be featured in a later article after my chat with them. Although Bruno Mars, who co-wrote "Uptown Funk," provides the main vocal, Mark Ronson's album "Uptown Special" contains the song.
BRUNO MARS: (Singing) This hit, that icy Michelle Pfeiffer, that white gold, this one for them street girls, them decent girls, straight masterpieces. Living in style and luxury in the metropolis. put on some Saint Laurent and Chucks. Gotta give myself a hug, I'm so lovely. Damn, I'm too hot. Call the fireman and the cops. Damn, I'm too hot. Make a dragon want to hang up his wings. Damn, I'm too hot. You recognise me; just say my name. Damn, I'm too hot. And my band regarding that cash. Take it apart. Girls make you ooh and hallelujah. Girls make you ooh and hallelujah. Girls make you ooh and hallelujah. For Uptown Funk is going to give it to you.
RONSON:...where that's it originated from, and it was born out of a jam at Bruno's studio, don't you know? He was banging on a drum. I was playing bass, and Jeff Bhasker, who co-produced the album with us, is on synths. And I believe that spirit, or at the very least the raucousness of perhaps that, is present. And then you adjust it along the way because you're thinking, "OK, we need to now convert this into a song," or something of that effect.
You almost need to like ironclad it to make sure it gets through when you're doing something that doesn't sound like anything else on the radio at the time, you know? You know you have to put these hooks in it? To get it through the gate, you must make sure it contains all of that ear pleasure.
So, on occasion, if I'm working with a rapper like Ghostface Killah or Nas, producing typically refers to making the music in hip-hop. You produce the music and deliver it to them. They also create the rhymes. The producer's other, more conventional duty in the Quincy Jones sense is sort of part-arranger, you know. You hear these tunes that are very basic, and you imagine what the band is doing, so how do you come up with these songs? What's going on in the rhythm section? What kind of pianos, guitars, strings, etc. are there?
When Mars and his band were on tour, they used a particular lick as the basis for the song. "I pushed myself far harder than I have on anything else in the past," Mark Ronson said in an interview with Billboard Magazine. "When we struck on that initial line (This crap, that icy cold, Michelle Pfeiffer, that white gold), we realised that we had the root of this incredibly exciting idea." The atmosphere was electrified when Ronson and Bruno first came up with the instrumental track and a few lyrics for what would become the blockbuster song "Uptown Funk," according to Ronson. Ronson also said, "There's nothing more exciting than that part of the song, because the potential is endless," in an interview with Terry Gross for Fresh Air.
But after that, the co-writers found the process to be tedious and drawn out. Mars, Ronson, and Jeff Bhasker would get together and work on it in Memphis, London, or Los Angeles, but the vibe wasn't the same. Ronson claims, "You can never get that spirit back." The second verse you attempt to compose comes off as forced because the first one was so organic. For a split second, Mark Ronson believed that this song was simply not meant to be. However, Ronson fought for it because he recognised the potential. "Hey, can we get back in and attempt to work on that song again?" I would ask after waiting a month or two for everyone's nerves to calm down. We did finally obtain it.
While "funk" is the beat and release, the title "Uptown" suggests high status. The song's lyrics mention that the dragons are retiring and that he is so heated that he phoned the police and a fireman. Look at the lyrics, which were written using a variety of rhyme schemes: "Stop wait a minute"
The boxing champion Larry Holmes is quoted in a few of the song's lyrics. In an interview, Larry exclaimed, "Gotta kiss myself I'm so pretty," and then kissed his arm.
When Mark Ronson received a text message from his management informing him that this was the new number one hit in the States, he was out and about in London. I contacted Bruno, we spoke for a moment, and I said, "I'm going to let out a primal scream right now if that's okay," Ronson stated in a statement to Billboard Magazine. In order to save his beautiful ears, I cupped the phone.

Lyrics

You gotta go and get angry at all of my honesty

You know I try but I don't do too well with apologies

I hope I don't run out of time, could someone call a referee?

Cause I just need one more shot at forgiveness

I know you know that I made those mistakes maybe once or twice

By once or twice I mean maybe a couple a hundred times

So let me, oh let me redeem, oh redeem, oh myself tonight

Cause I just need one more shot at second chances

Yeah, is it too late now to say sorry?

Cause I'm missing more than just your body

Is it too late now to say sorry?

Yeah I know that I let you down

Is it too late to say I'm sorry now?

I'm sorry, yeah

Sorry, yeah

Sorry

Yeah I know that I let you down

Is it too late to say I'm sorry now?

I'll take every single piece of the blame if you want me to

But you know that there is no innocent one in this game for two

I'll go, I'll go and then you go, you go out and spill the truth

Can we both say the words and forget this?

Is it too late now to say sorry?

Cause I'm missing more than just your body

Is it too late now to say sorry?

Yeah I know that I let you down

Is it too late to say I'm sorry now?

I'm not just trying to get you back on me

Cause I'm missing more than just your body

Is it too late now to say sorry?

Yeah I know that I let you down

Is it too late to say I'm sorry now?

I'm sorry, yeah

Sorry, oh

Sorry

Yeah I know that I let you down

Is it too late to say I'm sorry now?

I'm sorry, yeah

Sorry, oh

Sorry

Yeah I know that I let you down

Is it too late to say I'm sorry now?

From the series of the top 10 most watched YouTube videos of all time.

When the song "Sorry" was released in October 2015, people quickly speculated that it might be an apology to Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber's ex-girlfriend. Though the chorus contains the following, it was difficult to tell because of the lyrics' ambiguity: "Yes, is it too late to apologise now since I'm missing you more than just your physical presence? Yes, I am aware that I disappointed you. Is it too late to apologise now?"

Only a few days after the song's debut, Bieber told an Australian radio station that it is "the stamp at the end of the apologies that I'm offering to people, to the media." People interpreted his remarks from this interview to suggest that he was apologising to the public for his dubious prior actions.

But things don't end there! In November 2015, while appearing on Ellen DeGeneres' show, Bieber claimed Selena Gomez was the subject of "Sorry," which is a completely unrelated claim.

If you don't already know, Justin Bieber's fourth album, Purpose, was released on Friday. (Our breakdown is available here.) In case you haven't heard any of the Biebs' new album's songs, the album is primarily about his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez. (Here are his covert video communications to her.) However, Gomez isn't the only gal catching our eye on Purpose: the dancing women in his music video for "Sorry" enthralled us with their eye-catching clothes and slick dance movements. Good news everyone, that incredible Justin Bieber dancing gang is returning in a new music video.

It's called Purpose: The Movement, and it was created by Bieber in collaboration with Scooter Braun, Parris Goebel, the choreographer of "Sorry," and 13 all-new music videos. This past weekend, Bieber made them all available, and one of them is a brand-new "What Do You Mean"

Fortunately, Bieber explained everything in his GQ cover story from February 2016. He acknowledged that the song is an apology, but not for his prior wrongdoings. "People misconstrued that as an apology that I was making with that song and other things. It was completely unrelated to that. A girl was the subject."video with the amazing "Sorry" dancers. We could wax lyrical about how wonderful it is all day, but we'll let the dance speak for itself instead.

Lyrics

Enrique Iglesias

One love, one love

Gente de Zona

Descemer

Yo te miro y se me corta la respiración

Cuando tú me miras, se me sube el corazón

(Me palpita lento el corazón)

Y en un silencio tu mirada dice mil palabras (uh)

La noche en la que te suplico que no salga el sol

Bailando (bailando)

Bailando (bailando)

Tu cuerpo y el mío llenando el vacío

Subiendo y bajando (subiendo y bajando)

Bailando (bailando)

Bailando (bailando)

Ese fuego por dentro me va enloqueciendo

Me va saturando

Yo quiero estar contigo

Vivir contigo, bailar contigo

Tener contigo una noche loca (una noche loca)

Ay, besar tu boca (y besar tu boca)

Yo quiero estar contigo

Vivir contigo, bailar contigo

Tener contigo una noche loca

Con tremenda nota

Oh-oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh-oh

Oh-oh-oh-oh, oh

Oh-oh-oh-oh

Tú me miras y me llevas a otra dimensión

(Estoy en otra dimensión)

Tus latidos aceleran a mi corazón

(Tus latidos aceleran a mi corazón)

Qué ironía del destino no poder tocarte (¡wuh!)

Abrazarte y sentir la magia de tu olor

Bailando (bailando)

Bailando (bailando)

Tu cuerpo y el mío llenando el vacío

Subiendo y bajando (subiendo y bajando)

Bailando (bailando)

Bailando (bailando)

Ese fuego por dentro me va enloqueciendo

The story of Sex and Love in a Song

Enrique Iglesias, a Spanish musician, recorded the song "Bailando" for his 2014 release of "Sex and Love," his tenth studio album. While Jamaican singer Sean Paul appears on the English/Spanglish version of the song, the original Spanish version of the song features Cuban musicians Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona.

Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona completed "Bailando" in 2013 without Iglesias' vocals, although it was not made available as a single. Iglesias claimed in a backstage interview with Univision Musica at the Premios lo Nuestro in 2014 that when Bueno first played him the song, he didn't like it and didn't want to record it, but after doing so, he fell in love with it and now counts the song as one of his favourites from the album. The song's title, "Dancing," refers to both the joy of dancing and a woman.

The music video's English translation, which was directed by Cuban producer Alejandro Perez, was made public on June 13th, 2014. The video was also produced by Iglesias' longtime colleagues Yasha Malekzad, who served as creative producer, and Kasra Pezeshki, who served as executive producer. The video features Sean Paul, Gente de Zona, and Descemer Bueno in addition to flamenco dancers performing in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. All of the performers are participating in the song's chorus and dancing alongside the flamenco dancers from Havana's Ballet Lizt Alfonso, led by female dancer Ana Karla Suarez. The English-language version of the music video has around 333 million views as of October 2019.

Rankings, Certifications, and Awards: The English version of the song peaked at #8 in Slovakia, #13 in the Czech Republic, #4 in Poland, #38 on the US Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, #28 on the US Billboard Adult Top 40 chart, #10 on the US Billboard Mainstream Top 40, and #1 on the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart in its year of release. The Spanish version of the song peaked at #30 on the US Billboard Rhythmic Chart. Artist: Snakadaktal

Released: 2012

Album: Dance Bear

Lyrics

Your eyes were red sore

From swim school

From swim school

The days were cloudy, when you went home from here

Peacock on her perch

With red eyes, her feet tied

Tell me, you're there

Tell me, you'll dare

To be, here for

Dance Bear

Tell me, you're there

Tell me, you'll dare

To be, here for

Dance Bear

And we will clear it

From our minds, left behind

The warm protection, clears the sky

Kiss and fly

Peacock on her perch

With red eyes, her feet tied

Tell me, you're there

Tell me, you'll dare

To be, here for

Dance Bear

Tell me, you're there

Tell me, you'll dare

To be, here for

Dance Bear

Tell me, you're there

Tell me, you'll dare

To be, here for

Dance Bear

Tell me, you're there

Tell me, you'll dare

To be, here for

Dance Bear

Growth, perfectionism, and the process.

Talented Melbourne teenagers Snakadaktal have the world at their feet and, as the wide-eyed winners of triple j's Unearthed High competition, we're forecasting, a glittering future ahead of them. The group shared details about each song on their remarkable self-titled EP, including "Chimera," a stunning shoegazey pop song that caught triple j's attention. In December, they will begin a cross-country tour, so go see them perform live and perhaps buy them a drink. But first, check your ID. They are awfully young.

When Melbourne-based five-piece Snakadaktal won Triple J Unearthed High in 2011, Phoebe Lou and Joey Clough, then in high school, became instantly famous.

Only a few years after their breakup, the beloved indie-pop group left a definite vacuum in the Australian music scene. But if Snakadaktal hadn't broken up, we might not have been enchanted by the dreamy tones of Phoebe and Joey's most recent project, Two People.

The dream-pop duo returned to the recording studio later that year with a new outlook and a motivated approach to composition after the publication of their eagerly awaited first album, First Body, at the beginning of the previous year.

Second Body, which was released last Friday, was put together far more quickly than their debut album—which took several years to complete—and it is a beautiful sound expression of how Two People have developed as a creative team. I talked to them on the phone about their loneliness, odd habits, and the recording of the album.

Song with a moment of love, a dream, a laugh, a kiss, a cry, our rights, our wrongs… The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition (Official Video)

Released 16 September 2008

“A moment of love, a dream, a laugh, a kiss, a cry, our rights, our wrongs…”

Lyrics

Sweet disposition
Never too soon
Oh, reckless abandon
Like no one's watching you

A moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
A kiss, a cry
Our rights, our wrongs
A moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
A moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
So stay there
'Cause I'll be coming over
While our blood's still young
It's so young, it runs
Won't stop 'til it's over
Won't stop to surrender

Songs of desperation
I played them for you

A moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
A kiss, a cry
Our rights, our wrongs
A moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
A moment, a love
a dream, a laugh

Stay there
'Cause I'll be coming over
While our blood's still young
It's so young, it runs
Won't stop 'til it's over
Won't stop to surrender

Won't stop 'til it's over
Won't stop 'til it's over
Won't stop 'til it's over
Won't stop to surrender

[repeating over the next verse 'til the end:]
A moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
A kiss, a cry
Our rights, our wrongs
A moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
A moment, a love
a dream, a laugh

Won't stop 'til it's over
Won't stop 'til it's over
Won't stop 'til it's over
Won't stop to surrender

Moment of Love Song

The Temper Trap, an Australian indie rock[1] band, has a song called "Sweet Disposition." The song, which was written by Dougy Mandagi and Lorenzo Silitto, has been dubbed a "indie anthem" by critics. When the song was first released, it entered the top 10 in Flanders, Ireland, and the UK and peaked at No. 14 in Australia. After being added to the soundtrack for the 2009 movie 500 Days of Summer, the song gained new attention and eventually peaked at No. 9 on the US Billboard Alternative Songs chart.
These are the words of one of my all-time favourite songs, I believe. Because this song was included in the film 500 Days of Summer, starring the lovely duo of Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, I can thank social media movie buffs for introducing me to it. I recall entirely ignoring the other songs on my iTunes library in favour of listening to this song obsessively every hour of every day. Why wouldn't I, really? The lyrics were simply great, and the music was exquisitely arranged. It took me almost three years to figure out the song's true meaning.
The song, which was written by the band, is about the naivety of youth and the change from reacting to everything on the spur of the moment to having to think things through and using our heads more, otherwise known as adulthood. In all honesty, I assumed it was simply one of those songs with a catchy tune but no real substance to the lyrics, but I was again proven wrong. Internet, I curse you.
The Temper Trap are an Australian band, yet the lead single off their debut album Conditions, "Sweet Disposition," only peaked at No. 14 in Australia. Instead, it peaked at No. 6 (in the week beginning October 11) and No. 8 in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It eventually achieved 3 Platinum certification in Australia for sales of more than 210,000 copies, becoming the band's most successful single in their own nation.
Due to interest in the song following its inclusion in the movie 500 Days of Summer, it peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. It appeared in the Kevin Costner-starring action movie 3 Days to Kill from 2014. In April 2010, a dance remix of this song by Axwell and Dirty South peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart. In 2013, the RIAA awarded it a Platinum certification for sales of more than 1,000,000 copies.
The Federation of the Italian Music Industry awarded the song a gold certification, and the British Phonographic Industry awarded it a two-platinum rating in the UK.
The song is included in three music videos. In the Australian/domestic version, which was directed by Madeline Griffith, the band plays while slow-motion video of light bulbs breaking on the floor is shown.
The Barnaby Roper-directed UK/international version opens with a runway gradually descending toward the lights until a female is seen rollerblading through space, passing transparent pictures of each band member. After the song gained popularity in 2010, that rendition was also played there.
Daniel Eskils' American adaptation debuted in March 2010. This version shows the band members messing around with and destroying musical instruments as it is being recorded with a high-speed camera.
The Australian band has composed a lot of other songs, but for obvious reasons, they didn't garner as much attention as this one did. They received numerous prizes and a small taste of the popular fame that all musicians long for thanks to this one song. I still hold out a glimmer of hope that they'll soon release some new projects, even though their most recent album of the same name was released in 2012. fingers crossed.
